Border closures and travel restrictions are leaving many Canadians without the partners they need to safely navigate their world. Canadians who would otherwise travel to access a guide dog are now turning to CNIB Guide Dogs.

We’ve seen an over 375% increase in applications to our guide dog program since the pandemic began.

Oakville resident Jack McCormick and his guide dog were hit by a distracted driver in March of 2020. As a result, his dog was traumatized and had to retire. The border closure means Jack is unable to return to the U.S. school that provided him with his guide dog in 2014. Like so many others, Jack turned to CNIB Guide Dogs.

“Not having a guide dog has decreased my confidence. I feel less safe when I travel. I’m constantly worrying about bumping into something or harming myself.”
– Jack McCormick

How your money helps:

$5,000 purchases all the start-up equipment for five dogs. $20,000 covers the costs of food, travel and veterinarian bills for one dog. $25,000 provides training and ongoing mentoring for both guide dog and their human partner (a.k.a. handler). $50,000 provides all of the above and you'll get to name the dog! $100,000 sponsors two guide dogs, with naming opportunities.
